About Angustifolia - Igde (iğde)

It is a seeded, small fruit and grows on a small tree / shrubs that can be found around Aegean region in Turkey. It is well known as Kus Igdesi (Bird Igde). It is called in many names "elaeagnus, silverberry, oleaster, angustifolia, wolf-willow". Both the fruit and seeds of this plant are edible either cooked or raw. The fruit pulp is floury in texture and surrounds the single seed. You can eat igde with or without the seed. It can also be eaten raw as well as cooked. The fruit is in a floury structure and surrounds a single seed.

Unlike other plants, igde has the feature of storing nitrogen in its roots. Thanks to this feature, it does not distinguish whether the soil it grows on is fertile or not and can grow in most environments.
