What is Lahmacun?
It looks like pizza however, it is very different! First of all, no cheese is included in this pizza. Second of all, traditional Turkish spices are used and lastly the dough is VERY VERY thin.

It's one of the best-known street foods in Turkey. It's not only the thin and crunchy dough that makes a perfect lahmacun, but also the toppings. Onions, tomatoes, lettuce, parsley, rocket, and lemon are all commonly added garnishes to put on top of this Turkish pizza. The most traditional garnish is the mix of fresh parsley, tomato slices, and a generous squeeze of lemon juice. Although some prefer only onion with sumac but of course everyone can top it according to their tastes.

Once lahmacun is garnished, it is rolled up and the devouring can begin. Don't worry if your lahmacun doesn't roll perfectly. The ideal crust is crispy, so it should crackle and give you a bit of an uneven roll.

However you decide to have it just enjoy and come back for more!

The History of Lahmacun

Lahmacun has a fascinating history that dates back to ancient times. This delectable dish originated in the region known as the Levant, which encompasses modern-day Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, and other neighboring countries. Lahmacun, also known as "Turkish pizza," has been an integral part of Turkish cuisine for centuries.

Traditionally, Lahmacun consists of a thin and crispy dough topped with a flavorful mixture of minced lamb or beef, fresh vegetables, aromatic herbs, and spices. It is then baked to perfection, resulting in a tantalizing blend of textures and flavors.

The Traditional Lahmacun-Making Process

At Turkish Porter, we honor the traditional methods of preparing Lahmacun to ensure an authentic and unforgettable experience. Our skilled chefs meticulously prepare the dough by hand, using a perfect balance of ingredients to achieve the ideal texture and taste.

The dough is rolled out thinly, creating a delicate base for the savory toppings. The meat is expertly seasoned and combined with a medley of finely chopped vegetables and aromatic herbs such as parsley and mint. This mixture is carefully spread onto the dough, allowing the flavors to meld together during the baking process.

Once assembled, the Lahmacun is baked in a traditional stone oven, where the intense heat creates a crispy crust while locking in the savory goodness. The result is a Lahmacun that is bursting with flavors and offers a delightful contrast of textures.
